Class 11 Physics Chapter 1 Measurements: Important MCQs and Tips
Measurements is the first chapter of Class 11 Physics, and it quietly decides how well you handle every numerical question for the next two years. It covers physical quantities, SI base and derived units, prefixes, scientific notation, errors and uncertainties, significant figures and dimensional analysis. Because the ideas are short and factual, board examiners love to turn them into MCQs, and many students lose easy marks by rushing through this chapter.
In this post you will find the key topics to revise, quick exam tips, and eight practice MCQs taken from our 150-MCQ chapter test. Try them honestly before looking at the answers.
Key topics to revise
- Base and derived quantities and their SI units, including the seven base units.
- Prefixes such as milli, micro, nano, kilo, mega and giga, and conversion between them.
- Systematic and random errors, precision and accuracy.
- Significant figures and rounding off in addition, multiplication and division.
- Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty and how they combine.
- Dimensions of physical quantities and checking the homogeneity of equations.
Exam tips
- Count significant figures carefully: zeros between digits count, leading zeros never do.
- When quantities are multiplied, add their percentage uncertainties; when a quantity is raised to a power, multiply its percentage uncertainty by that power.
- Use dimensional analysis to eliminate wrong options in formula-based MCQs within seconds.
- Revise the prefix table daily for a week; it appears in almost every paper.

How to use these MCQs
Do not just read the answers. Cover them, attempt all eight questions within eight minutes, then check. For every wrong answer, open your textbook and read that paragraph again. Students who practise this way usually find that the same mistakes do not repeat in the board exam. Once you are comfortable with these, move on to a full timed test so that you can judge your preparation for the whole chapter of Measurements, not just a few questions.
Practise the full chapter
These questions are only a small part of our complete Measurements test. The full test has 150 MCQs, starting with all exercise MCQs from the textbook followed by carefully checked questions covering every topic of the chapter. You get an instant score, a full answer review, a printable result and up to three attempts in seven days.
